Roseola/”Tigdas Hangin”
Roseola infantum or well-known as “Tigdas Hangin” is a viral infection most common in children ages 4 years and below. It is characterized by several days of high fever, usually around 3-5 days, and followed by tiny pink rash mostly on the trunk area.
Just recently, my son had this kind of infection. I was a bit alarmed because of the sudden high fever. His body temperature range from 38 Deg to 40 Deg and the fever went on for 3 straight days.
But according to his Pedia, Roseola is not life threatening. It does not specifically require any treatment, it just needs to run its course.

Here are some facts regarding Roseola:
Signs and Symptoms:
- Sudden high grade fever that lasts for 3 – 5 days.
- Temperature ranges from 38 Deg Celcius to 40 Deg Celcius. To lower the fever, give a dose of Paracetamol every 4-6 hours (refer to How to fight your child’s Fever for the correct dosage).
- After fever disappears, small rash appears on the head down to the trunk area.
- Child may have runny nose or sore throat. In my son’s case, he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection.
- Fatigue, Irritability, and loss of appetite
- Mild diarrhea

Proper Care
- Make sure your child rests and gets plenty of liquids
- Advice all the family members especially yaya to wash their hands frequently
- Always monitor baby’s body temperature
- If condition worsens, if your child is having seizures, high grade fever for more than 5 days, vomitting, seek for immediate medical attention.
